Which are the main building materials?

There are many building materials that can be used in a new project, so it is important to have the help of experts, such as an architect, to help you find the ones that will be best for the project you have in mind.

Construction is going through a very particular moment, not only because of the difficulty in finding labor, but also because of the materials used, which at a time of a lot of construction, are difficult to find in the necessary quantities and times.

These are the main materials used in construction:

Cement

Cement is one of the most sold materials in construction, as it is used in practically all buildings. Its important ability to unite other raw materials makes it widely used in different civil construction projects, from the simplest to the most elaborate.

Cement is composed of clay, limestone and oxides of iron and aluminum which, when mixed, form the base of the concrete, which also takes water, sand and stone in the preparation.

Bricks

The use of bricks in civil construction is not a unanimous rule. Still, in most cases, they are still used in the formation of large structures and can still be applied in interior decoration.

In addition to its purely technical use, there is also the possibility of leaving the bricks exposed, as a decorative technique, for greater rusticity of the place. For those who want a cleaner and clearer environment, you can combine the use of bricks with cement in the formation of structures, which will then be covered with other materials so that they cannot be seen.

Tiles

The completion of civil construction projects is done with the roof which, not being a terrace, can be finished with tiles. It can be built-in or exposed and the choice of tile will depend a lot on the project. Among the most common tiles are ceramic tiles.

Floors and coverings

At the bottom, civil construction projects need to be finished with floors or coatings, to protect the surface from wear and tear, infiltration, among others. The choice of material varies greatly according to the project and the budget of the work, with more economical options, such as vinyl flooring, floating floors, or expensive ones as stone options like marble.

Wood

Very resistant, wood for construction can be useful in the most different stages of construction. In any building it is common to find wood, whether on the roof, floor, doors, cladding or just the structure. The wood can also be used in the construction of mezzanines and partition walls.

If we look at the Portuguese construction of the 19th century, in downtown Lisbon buildings, for example, we can see the famous Pombaline cage, a wooden structure in cross, inside the wall, to prevent earthquakes.
